Advise on first trip to China

Hello,

I want to travel to China first time in Aug. 2008 (during the Olympics) and I definitely want to see Beijing, Guilin, and Xian. Is that doable in 10 days? Would anyone advise a travel plan as far as the number of suggested days to stay in each city? I will be traveling solo and I am not afraid to do a lot of walking and site-seeing.

I LOVE to travel and I wish I could see every city and village in China but it is a huge country so unfortunately I won’t be seeing it all like HK and Shanghai. I felt that Beijing, Guilin (for its natural beauty) and Xian are must-sees for all their rich history. What do you advise?

Thank you in advance. This is by far the best travel board with some great posters!

PS. How do you pronounce Guilin? KWAY-lin?

You can do this in 10 days

Beijing-3 nights evening overnight train to Xi'an

Xi'an-2 nights

Guilin (air)-2 nights

Yangshuo 1 nights

Then fly to Hongkong

Guilin is pronounced more like GWAY-lin.

If you need any help, please contact info@chinahighlights.com

Good luck!

Morgen

How about go to "Shangri-La" ?A mysterious valley which was surrounded by snowcapped mountains; near where there were snow-clad peaks, blue lakes, broad grassy marshlands, and lamaseries, Buddhist nunneries, mosques, Catholic Church, the human beings and the nature were in perfect harmony, several religions and varies of nationalities exited at the same time; the temples looked splendid in green and golden; though people contacted the outer world by caravan for a long time, many foreign experts and scholars had come here to investigate and remained much relics……

Hi, Morgen. Thanks so much for answering my questions! You help me a lot!

Now I’m going to choose a tour operator, since it can smooth my tour in China.

Could anybody recommend some reputable tour operators in China? What about the CITS? It seems that they have good reviews.

Thanks.
