What Is the Best Way to Explore Shanghai?

Hi everybody,

I am trying to plan a trip to Shanghai this July, along with my wife and my 3 years old daughter.

I have no experience whatsoever with China. What worries me is the communication with the people there as most of them do not speak English.

After I Googled Shanghai, I ended up with three options, and I need to hear your opinions fellow travelers. The options are:

1. To book a ready-made tour package from a tour operator. the package includes a private car with an English speaking guide.

2. To hire an English speaking guide only.

3. To go there first, and then asses the situation and decide what to do.

So, any idea what would the best option be?

Thank you in advance.

I'd like to recommend the first one. It is safe for you to travel in a country, though the cost might be higher than the other two.  There is a local agent, a guide and car serve you all over the trip. They will cover insurance for you.  A good agent often has a good service system and costumer service care. So why not choose an agent to enjoy your tour?

Thanks, Joe!  We have taken your recommendation and chose a good agent for our Shanghai tour. Well, have you been to Shanghai? How do you like it? Can anyone recommend some places we must visit in Shanghai?

Thank you in advance!

I don't think the first one is a good choice. If you join a ready-made tour pakage, you have to rush from site to site.

I don't think that's a good experience.

The second choice will be better. To hire a local english speaking guide, you can go to any places you like. If you like this place much, you can stay longer and get better experience, you don't have to rush to the next site.

Since you have made your decision, I hope you will enjoy your trip to china. :)

(I think young poeple don't like pakage tour :))

Also want to be your friends
