Cost of a Two Week stay in Chengdu

Hello everyone,
I am going to China next week and will be staying in Chengdu. I have paid for flights and hotel for the two week stay. I want to explore Chengdu mainly but also want to vist Jiuzhai vally for a few days and perhaps a few more day/overnight trips. A Chinese friend I will need about 20,000 RMB for the trips. Is this correct? It seems alot to me, about £2,000. I am wondering if he made a mistake and added a few too many zeros!
Anybody have an idea?
