Aviation

Macau International AirportMacau International Airport (MIA) lies at the eastern tip of Dangzai Island. There are regular flights to China's major tourist cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guilin, Xiamen, Fuzhou, as well as some international flights to Gaoxiong, the capital city of Korea, Renchuan, and Bangkok in Thailand. There are also some seasonal routes, charter flights to Haikou, Gaosong and Gangshan in Japan.

MIA currently has some minor extra charges:

  1. 20 Macau dollars for airport maintenance and 90 Macau dollars for passenger service (children under 2 years old are exempt). 
  2. 10 Macau dollars and 40 Macau dollars per person/per time for transit passengers (excludes those who can directly cross the border of Macau without any visa procedures and take the same flight or a flight from the same aircraft).

There are buses available from the airport to Macau Passenger Transport Dock (15 minutes), Guanzha (20 minutes) and Ludang Borders (5 minutes).

Helicopters

The helicopter routes between Hong Kong and Macau are operated by Asia-Pacific Airliner and Ganglian Helicopter Co, Ltd..  A flight from Hong Kong to Macau takes about 16 minutes and lands on the parking apron of Passenger Transport Building of Macau.

Railway

There is no rail service in Macau Special Administrative Region. If you arrive at Guangzhou Railway Station, Shenzhen Railway Station, or Hang Kong Railway Station, the only way to Macau is either by road (coach) sea or air (helicopter).

Highway

There are two border checkpoints between Macau and Mainland China. One is Guanzha Inspection Station on the border of Zhuhai and northeast Macau Peninsula. The other is Dangcheng Inspection Station on Lianhua Bridge in Ludang and it connects the Gongbei Port with Hengqin Port in Zhuhai. 

Gongbei Port is the main road border. It is open from 7.30am to midnight seven days a week. There are air-conditioned shuttle buses between Wanshi Hotel (close to Qiguan Station in Macau) and Guangzhou. They run from 8am to 6.30pm every 30 minutes. It's about a two-hour trip and costs 55 Hong Kong dollars.

Please note Qiguan Station does not provide service on entry visa procedures to foreign visitors. Tourists can first arrange their entry visa at Gongbei Custom and go to the second underground floor of the Inspection Station Building to take a bus from there to Qiguan Station.

Seaway

Macau Transportation Dock lies on the southeast tip of the Macau Peninsula in Waigang Port facing Aodang Bridge and adjacent to the New Babaiban Corporation.  Macau Waigang Transportation Dock (its full title) has passenger and cargo transportation ships going to and fro Hong Kong and Shenzhen every day. 

It's about 60 kilometers from Macau Waigang Transportation Dock to Shanghuan Xinde Center in Hong Kong. There are scheduled trips every day and a 24-hour transportation service is provided to tourists. Travel  takes about an hour. Fares range from economy at 142-145 Macau Dollar (MOP) to luxury class for MOP244-260. The special VIP services range from MOP976 to around Mop1560.  To have something special there are four and six seat VIP carriages available for night cruising at 10% extra on the day rate. The beautiful night scenes and light reflections on the water is worth it too!

Macau is about 67 kilometers off Shenzhen. There are four trips daily between the two destinations and each takes about an hour. Children two or more years old must have a ticket. Fares range from 172 to 272 Hong Kong dollars.

Bus

There are luxury and mid-sized auto-buses in Macau Special Administrative Region. All have air-conditioning. At each station you can find directions and introductions to bus routes in Chinese and Portuguese. Bus No. AP1 shuttles between Macau Peninsula and the local airport. Also there are Bus No. 11, 22, 28A, 30, 33, and 34 traveling between Macau Peninsula and Dangzai Island. Bus No. 21, 21A, 25, 26, and 26A are available at Macau Peninsula, Dangzai Island, and Luhuan Island.

Bus price varies in different districts of Macau. For instance, it is 2.5 Macau dollars per person within the urban area, 3.3 Macau dollars to Macau Peninsula and Dangzai Island, four to five Macau dollars to Luhuan Island, and five Macau dollars to Heishatan Beach.  

Please note: Tourists need to prepare enough loose change as all the buses are self-service ticketing. Most buses in Macau start working from 6am to mid-night every day and make getting around easy and convenient. However tourists are advised to avoid the peak hour rush of daily commuters.

Taxi

Taxis in Macau are all black with their roof in cream or fresh yellow. Tourists can call a taxi by telephone and it will charge in the same way as you find a taxi on the street. The charging standard is as follows:

Initial Price: ten Macau dollars for every 1.5 kilometers.

Rent Price: one Macau dollar for every 200 meters on the basis of initial price.

Charge on Waiting: if required, the taxi driver will stop and wait during their passenger's journey; usually it costs one Macau dollar every minute.

Charge on Baggage: There is usually a charge of three Macau dollars for each piece of baggage which needs to be placed in the trunk.    

Extra Charges: it costs two extra Macau dollars from Dangzai Island to Luhuan Island, five extra Macau dollars from Macau Peninsula to Luhuan Island, and five extra Macau dollars if passengers get on at the boarding lot at Macau International Airport.  

Conditions for Non-extra Charge: Tourists don't need to pay any extra charge to the taxi driver when traveling from Dangzai Island or Luhuan Island to Macau Peninsula, and from Luhuan Island to Dangzai Island.

Manpowered Pedicab

Manpowered pedicabTourists in Macau can take a manpowered pedicab while traveling in some special scenic areas. Riders usually walk slowly so as to let tourists enjoy the beautiful scenery along the roads. Most riders are good tourist guides and they charge by the time of service. Tourists can bargain with them; the normal price is about 150-200 Macau dollars per hour.

Vehicle Renting

Getting around independently requires hiring either a bicycle or motorbike, which is a good idea as Macau is not too big to do this or secondly for the less fit hire a four-seat jeep for around 450 t0 500 Macau dollars per day from 9am to 5pm.  The traffic rule in Macau is to travel on the left side of the road.
